The Lights
Having established the umbrella as the brightest
light, I now proceed to the other lights- using it as
a benchmark

Adding cooler colours

As you move to the mid-tones, you begin to
see the cooler greens and blues coming into
play. This scene could very easily become
dominated by these cool colours - but the
warm shades in the underpainting help create
a balance. They also make the greens
themselves look cooler than they really are
(there's actually quite a bit of cad. orange in
the mixture). Similarly, I will add a purplish
grey in the shadows on the road. The colour
itself is warm, but set against the red
undepainting, it will read as a cool shadow.
