The finished piece. The final
colours are much more muted-
acting as a foil for the red
umbrella and the few
highlights in blue and yellow.
The wall presented a
challenge - a large mass,
almost dividing the painting in
two. The answer was to
modulate the light falling
across it - "inventing" enough
light in the top left corner to
bring the value of the wall
close to that of the sky, while
darkening and cooling the
lower right corner.
The road markings have been
used as a device to lead the
eye into focal point in the
composition.
